If the factoring transfers the receivable " with recourse", the factor has the right to collect the unpaid invoice amount from the transferor (seller). If the factoring transfers the receivable " without recourse", the factor (purchaser of the receivable) must bear the loss if the account debtor does not pay the invoice amount. The arrangement is usually confidential in that the debtor is not notified of the assignment of the receivable and the seller of the receivable collects the debt on behalf of the factor. Usually, the account debtor is notified of the sale of the receivable, and the factor bills the debtor and makes all collections however, non-notification factoring, where the client (seller) collects the accounts sold to the factor, as agent of the factor, also occurs. Accordingly, the receivable becomes the factor's asset, and the factor obtains the right to receive the payments made by the debtor for the invoice amount, and is free to pledge or exchange the receivable asset without unreasonable constraints or restrictions. The sale of the receivable transfers ownership of the receivable to the factor, indicating the factor obtains all of the rights associated with the receivables. Invoice factoring is not a relevant financing option for retail or B2C companies because they generally do not have business or commercial clients, a necessary condition for factoring. Both invoice discounting and factoring are used by B2B companies to ensure they have the immediate cash flow necessary to meet their current and immediate obligations. This process is sometimes used in manufacturing industries when the immediate need for raw material outstrips their available cash and ability to purchase "on account". The seller sells the receivables at a discount to the third party, the specialized financial organization (aka the factor) to obtain cash. The receivable, usually associated with an invoice for work performed or goods sold, is essentially a financial asset that gives the owner of the receivable the legal right to collect money from the debtor whose financial liability directly corresponds to the receivable asset. There are three parties directly involved: the factor who purchases the receivable, the one who sells the receivable, and the debtor who has a financial liability that requires him or her to make a payment to the owner of the invoice. The Scottish Law Commission reviewed this position and made proposals to the Scottish Ministers in 2018. Scottish law differs from that of the rest of the UK, in that notification to the account debtor is required for the assignment to take place. In the UK, the main difference between factoring and invoice discounting is confidentiality. In the UK the arrangement is usually confidential in that the debtor is not notified of the assignment of the receivable and the seller of the receivable collects the debt on behalf of the factor. It is therefore also not considered to be borrowing in the UK. However, in some other markets, such as the UK, invoice discounting is considered to be a form of factoring, involving the "assignment of receivables", that is included in official factoring statistics. Factoring is the sale of receivables, whereas invoice discounting ("assignment of accounts receivable" in American accounting) is a borrowing that involves the use of the accounts receivable assets as collateral for the loan. In the United States, Factoring is not the same as invoice discounting (which is called an assignment of accounts receivable in American accounting – as propagated by FASB within GAAP). The Commercial Finance Association is the leading trade association of the asset-based lending and factoring industries. Accounts receivable financing is a term more accurately used to describe a form of asset based lending against accounts receivable. Factoring is commonly referred to as accounts receivable factoring, invoice factoring, and sometimes accounts receivable financing. Forfaiting is a factoring arrangement used in international trade finance by exporters who wish to sell their receivables to a forfaiter. A business will sometimes factor its receivable assets to meet its present and immediate cash needs. Factoring is a financial transaction and a type of debtor finance in which a business sells its accounts receivable (i.e., invoices) to a third party (called a factor) at a discount. Installing ejabberdįirst we need to enable EPEL-Repository (EPEL = Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux) on your VPS. This tutorial will guide you through the installation process and basic setup on a CentOS VPS. About ejabberdĮjabberd is a very simple, stable, and powerful XMPP server written in Erlang. If available, we strongly recommend using a guide written for the version of CentOS you are using. This guide might still be useful as a reference, but may not work on other CentOS releases. For this reason, this guide is no longer maintained. If you are currently operating a server running CentOS 6, we highly recommend upgrading or migrating to a supported version of CentOS.ĬentOS 6 reached end of life (EOL) on November 30th, 2020 and no longer receives security patches or updates. Good took me hours & hours to wade through all of this. This article covers a version of CentOS that is no longer supported. delete the contents of /var/lock/ejabberdctl and make sure the directory is writable by user ejabberd chown the contents of /var/log/ejabberd to ejabberd:ejabberdĤ. If you modify the service, be sure to execute "systemctl daemon-reload" afterwards.ģ. Either modify /usr/lib/systemd/system/rvice to run the service as root, or remove /var/lib/ejabberd and create a new, blank directory of the same name and chown it to ejabberd:ejabberd. #!/usr/bin/pkexec /bin/sh needs to be #!/bin/shĢ. modify /usr/bin/ejabberdctl to modify it to use /bin/sh instead of /usr/bin/pkexec: So, the summary of how to get ejabberd to run as a service on CentOS 7 (and perhaps all systemd-based linuxes:ġ. modifying /etc/sudoers to allow this to proceed fixed this problem. sudo -u ejabberd ejabberdctl fixed that for the command line, but I had scripts that were executing as root that needed to call ejabberdctl to register users.that got me some warnings from sudo about needing a tty connection. Removing all of these files helped.įinally I had an issue with ejabberdctl running from the command line as root not being able to connect to the ejabberd process that was running as ejabberd:ejabberd. I also had some issues with the lock files in /var/lock/ejabberdctl. The next issue was with access permissions to ejabberd log files. In the end I just nuked the entire directory and re-created a blank /usr/lib/ejabberd and chown'ed the entire thing to ejabberd:ejabberd. chown'ing them to ejabberd:ejabberd fixed the access problem but then mnesia complained about changes in names or some such. I had been running ejabberdctl from the command line during installation and configuration, which resulted in a /var/lib/ejabberd that was owned by root:root, so when systemd ran ejabberdctl as ejabberd:ejabberd, mnesia had no access to its files. This change worked, and ejabberdctl started running successfully when systemd called it. Rather than try to get the systemd maintainers to change this, or the pkexec maintainers to fix their issue with double forking, I tried modifying the ejabberdctl script to call for /bin/sh instead of /usr/bin/pkexec. I appears that pkexec does not like being launched as part of a double fork exec, and that systemd does exactly this. After finding a cryptic log message about "refusing to render service to dead parents," I finally traced the problem to pkexec. The root problem is that it appears that systemd and pkexec do not play nice together. After spending several hours banging my head on the problem, I finally succeeded. I have seen a few discussions of problems getting ejabberd to run as a service but no conclusive explanation of how to do it. The purpose of the market maker is to facilitate efficient trading of securities. The process of how this transfer is completed has changed a lot over the years in some ways and in other ways it has not. In New York, it was under a buttonwood tree along a street called Wall Street. When you think back on how the markets started, it was individuals gathered around, with somebody selling something and somebody buying something at the edge of town. It all relates to the trading value in the security and the number of market makers trading in that individual security. The spread can be very small (maybe only $0.0001) or could be very large (like $5.00 or more). The spread between the two is how a market-marker gets paid. The Ask is the price that a seller of a security gets. The Bid is the price the buyer of the security pays. Every security that is traded has a Bid and an Ask price. To understand it in greater detail you have to start with how our markets operate and the function that a market maker performs. Payment for order flow is the transferring of profits made when a security is traded, back to the institution that directed the order to them (Market Maker). The trading of securities involves Market Makers – who facilitate the execution of trades and earns revenue in doing so. This practice is also responsible for lowering the cost of security trades. You should hear more about this in the coming future as the federal government is paying more attention to this practice, which was pioneered by Bernard Madoff (you might remember how this ended for him). In the news lately, you might have heard a conversation about payment for order flow. We selected the grow lights for testing based on manufacturer reputation, such as the GE Hydrofarm light. In addition, they were all in various states of health when we began the testing. We observed the plants and noted any significant changes, but keep in mind that this part was subjective since we used different plants, including seedlings, houseplants, and overwintered patio plants. We recorded our observations and awarded points based on a rubric throughout the testing. We tested timers on the lights that came with them to see how accurate they were, and we frequently tested for heat generation by putting our hands beneath the grow lights to see if they were producing heat or not. To determine each light’s practical coverage, we darkened the room, turned on the grow light, and then measured the distance of the brightest part of the light pattern. We tried to keep the testing as scientific as possible by providing the recommended amount of light-by plant type-with the grow lights. While we’re not professional growers by a long shot-we do enjoy starting seeds, and we have several houseplants that always seem a bit on the leggy side due to inadequate light. We placed the plants and grow lights in areas that were otherwise too dark for plants to grow, and we tried them out on a variety of plants, from houseplants to herbs, to flowering seedlings. We wanted to know if they worked well enough to keep plants not just alive-but thriving-so we tested the most popular models on the market. Though nothing is better than natural sunlight, grow lights are designed to provide Photosynthetic Active Radiation (PAR) so the plant can undergo photosynthesis like outside in nature. Unless you have a greenhouse or an unlimited number of south-facing windows, grow lights are your best option for providing the right light to your plants.
